Finsif in brief

Finsif - Finland's Sustainable Investment Forum aims at promoting responsible investment taking into account factors related to environment, society, and corporate governance when considering investment decisions. Finsif was founded by a group Finnish investors, asset managers and other investment professionals in 2010.

History

Finland has been long seen as hanging back behind Nordic peers when it comes to promoting sustainable and responsible investment. It is true that there has not been a forum in Finland to open and facilitate discussions.  It is only in recent years that a meaningful dialogue on the subject has been initiated, and yet there are still preconceptions, misconceptions and perhaps even a touch of mystery surrounding the topic.

These considerations inspired in autumn 2009 a group of Finnish signatories to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment to gather together to discuss the need to move the responsible investment agenda forward. This group albeit initially small in numbers represented a total of more than 250 billion Euros in assets under management. The outcome of the numerous discussions, think tanks and assemblies was the creation of FINSIF– Finland’s Sustainable Investment Forum on June 10th 2010. The forum’s purpose is to provide information as well as tools for adopting sustainable and responsible investment in our organisations, to inspire a national discussion and hopefully also to change attitudes, bit by bit.
